As we go through life, we have choices we make every day. Sometimes make the choices that are based on the circumstances we are in, choices based on our job, choices based on what we need to do or say to our children, and we make choices on…. you can fill in the blank. Before we make a choice in life we need to pause and ask this question. “In Light of your past experience, what is the wise thing to do?” This is a simple question to ask ourselves before we make a decision or choice but one of the hardest. We can apply this this question in business or personal choices. I think of a day when I went to trade in my car for a new one. My current car had nothing wrong with it at all. It wasn’t new and it had lost the new car smell but it did what I needed it to and that was to get me to work and back. However, I came up with all the excuses to trade in my car for the new one. You are thinking, why is this a big deal if you want a new car. Go get it right. I mean, I can afford it or can I. This is where this question comes into play. Based on my past experience, I put myself in a place that I was working for a car payment and man that car cost me. It cost me spending time with my kids because I was having to work longer hours to pay for this car. I was sitting in the dealership and asked this question to myself. Then I started to think if I made this choice what would it cost me in the future. So, I made a choice to walk away with my old car instead of getting a new one. Making the choice to ask that question ended up being a wise decision. You see, I’m in sales and my income is based on commission. The economy changed and folks were not buying advertising like they once were. If I would have bought that car that day I would have been back in the place I was in the past. Sometimes we need to ask the hard questions before we make that choice.
Life is a series of choices. From the time we wake up until the time we fall asleep at night. You make countless decisions – decisions about the things you do, decisions about the words you speak, and decisions about the way that you choose to direct your thoughts. As a believer that I am, who has been transformed by the love of Jesus, I have every reason to make the right choice. But hey the last time I looked and the mirror and went out in my boat I’m not Jesus and can’t walk on water. HAHA. We have all the daily grind of life that will eat you up and spit you out. We make choices that are not pleasing to Christ. We make choices and they will catch up with us. Maybe not now but they will. I know because I have made those choices in my life. Before we make choices in our life, let’s take a moment and ask this question “based on my past experience is this the wise thing to do?” But seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be provided for you.
