Hunting
Every year I take my daughter to the hunting camp on her birthday. This is something we have done for a few years. It doesn’t matter if it falls on the weekday I will always check her out. It’s just her and myself I look forward to doing this every year. We have a great ride up there and always stop at WHATABURGER and get something to eat before we get to the camp. Then when we get to the camp the first thing she always wants to do is ride the 4-wheelerand of course she takes off. After that we will get dressed to go into the woods and off we go. We sit in the stand and sometimes she falls asleep and other times we talk and laugh. I am surprised we even saw any deer. I remember one year we were in the woods and we had to walk way back in the wood to our stand. We sat there until it was dark, and I remember her saying dad its dark and do you know your way out or are we going to get lost? I chuckled and said no I know the way out just follow me and follow in my steps and I will get us out to the road she we can get on the 4-wheeler and head back to camp. She said ok dad and of we went I had my flashlight on and lead the way. I remember her following me so close and if I would have stopped she would have ran right into me. As I was walking I remember looking back and she was steeping exactly in my foot prints. When we got to the road and on the 4-wheeler she said in her 9 year old voice dad you were right you did know where you we going and thanks for not getting us lost. As I dad I just said you’re welcome and now let’s go eat. Later that night I was thinking as I was lying on the couch I did the same thing with my dad when I was that young also. I didn’t want to get lost so I followed my dad’s footsteps all the way out of the woods back to the truck. When I got back to the truck I felt safe just as she did when we got back to the 4-wheeler. This brings me to John 8:12 “I am the light if the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of the world”. Think about that story my daughter followed my steps because she knew where I was going and I was not going to lead her astray. So if God is our father then we don’t we follow him? He leads the way for us and does not want us to go astray. Just think if my daughter said I am not going to follow you dad I am going to go my own way. What do you think would have happen? That’s right she would have gotten lost in the woods. It’s like life when we don’t follow our father we also will get lost. We think we know best and what we want but we don’t. We need to follow Christ he is the one who knows where we need to go. One thing I have learned is when you do go the way you think you want to go and not follow God you will get lost and you lose things along the way. You might find your way back to God but what did your lose when you went your own direction?
