Auto Pilot
I used to run a 61 foot fishing boat and we did a lot of sports fishing. I remember on Thursday night we were leaving the dock and headed out. When we hit the pass to the Gulf of Mexico I noticed it was going to be a bumpy ride. Well most everyone went down stairs to go to sleep because we had a 9 hour ride to get where we were going. I set up the auto pilot to where we were going and pushed the button and know the boat is being driven by that. I remember we were about 25 miles out and it started getting rough I noticed that the boat kept getting off course but it would come back on course. As the seas began to get higher the boat continued to go off course and back on course. I remember thinking I need to take control of this or we are not going to stay on course like we need to be. So I took the boat off auto pilot and then took it upon myself to drive the boat. Guess what I was more off course than ever. I fought through seas for about 45 min. I then thought to put the boat back on auto pilot because it kept us on course and I was not. This is our life with Christ. We allow God to have control but when it looks like he is not doing what we think he should do we try to take control of our lives because we think we know best. Yea were does that get us? That’s right so far off course that it is not even funny. God calls to follow him and allow him to control our lives not for him to follow us and we control our lives. The hardest thing for anyone to do is to give up control of something. We have to remember if we want to live the way God calls us to live then we have to give him control. I know easier said than done. So today think of two things you want to give to God to control. Then give it to him and don’t try to take it back from him.
